Conversion of a foundry into apartments, offices, retail and an event hall
In 1999 three architectural offices presented a proposal for the redevelopment of the site of the former foundry in Zurich. The Office of Planning selected the submission of KSA. One of the reasons for the decision was the integration of the foundry in the overall design. The space is now used for art events, car presentations and more. The success of the planning was based on the cooperation between the owners, authorities, neighbors, cultural institutions and interest groups. From the very beginning existed a very good, consensus-oriented relationship with the city of Zurich. The design for Pulse 5 is one of the few major projects that was accepted by the city without plan revisions. For the competition „Turbinenplatz“ in 2000, Peter Kyncl was appointed to the jury. The wish of the architect was that the court should lead into the foundry building. This was achieved with the winning project of the young landscape architects ADR from Lausanne.
