The design of the Bar B1, which was opened at the beginning of January 2012 in Neuhausen, Germany, is rustic yet modern. The interior concept by Bettina Schaller takes reference from traditional themes, elements, colours, and shapes in order to exaggerate them in a playful way, alienate them and combine them with contemporary elements. The overlapping of space-defining layers with different surface qualities creates a contemporary interior without losing sight of the atmospheric density an the history. An oversized picture of a lion – derived from the coat-of-arms of the lords of Neuhausen – on the ceiling and walls, as a hand drawing reprocessed and graphically alienated, creates associations with historic ceiling paintings.
