The Lake of Zurich lies way sits below the elegantly terraced location and is the focal point of a sweeping panoramic view that ranges from the Alps, at the one extreme to the lights of the city of Zurich in the evening. The centre of the historic village of Herrliberg testifies to an agricultural tradition centred on winemaking. This is likewise reflected in the surroundings of Bel Sit: dry-stone walls and vines underscore the rural setting of the buildings on their staggered terraces. Architecturally, and in sharp contrast to the natural environment, the project is reductionist in its design, involving the use of a restricted range of carefully selected materials that set off the lake views to even greater advantage. The luxurious, yet consistently understated structure of the generously sized apartments, is a seamless and aesthetically pleasing blend of austerity and lightness.
